Intervolve. Final Year Collection, 2017.
This was part of the Mohair knitwear design competition in which I came first place. My garments are inspired by the name Zambia. It holds significant meaning and identity that refers to the struggle for independence. The name itself is derived from the Zambezi River which is often depicted symbolically as black stripes on a white background. I used this as a motif in one form or another in all the projects. I strongly believe that a name carries within itself a great sense of identity and pride. This coupled with a more Eurocentric silhouette coupled with South African Mohair serves as a metaphor that celebrates cohesion and unity. Special thanks to Mohair SA for sponsoring the yarn and technical support. Reetha for training and guidance. Jenade Augustine for Photography as well as models, Mylo and Tyler.
